The Association supports the environmental quality of both companies and territory. You can read a summary of the declarations expressed during the press conference as follows.
CLUB EMAS AND ECOLABEL PUGLIA HAVE BEEN LAUNCHED: THEIR HQ WILL BE BASED AT FIERA DEL LEVANTE
Club Emas and Ecolabel Puglia have been launched and their headquarters will be based in the fair district of Fiera del Levante. The Association, as highlighted during the press conference, aims at encouraging the promotion and development of environmental quality in public and private institutions, territory, products and services through new, close relationships with public bodies, companies and professionals. The objective is to spread the use of environmental certification and, in particular, of the EMAS and ECOLABEL models.
The choice of the site is not casual, as explains President of Fiera del Levante Gianfranco Viesti: “Fiera del Levante is a place where the circulation of people and ideas comes true. From here, it will be easier to promote the use of environmental certification, which is essential to come out positively from the crisis. Moreover, our trade fair district must rapidly focus on issues such as water, energy, telecommunications and mobility sustainability.” Gian Maria Gasperi, director of A.FO.RI.S - Impresa Sociale, highlights the presence in the Club of institutional actors, representatives of companies and professional organisations. He also points out the commitment of the Regional Government of Puglia, which has already launched a wide range of important initiatives in the framework of sustainable production and consumption strategies (Scuola EMAS and ECOLABEL, contributions to environmental certification, Green Public Procurement, etc.).” In particular, several associations adhered to Club Emas and Ecolabel Puglia: regional production districts for environment and reuse (President Lorenzo Ferrara underlines that they include more than 200 companies, institutions, research centres and Apulia universities); “La Nuova Energia”; “Edilizia Sostenibile”; Gruppo AQP SpA; protected areas certified by EMAS, such as the National park of Gargano and the Marine Reserve of Torre Guaceto; the Municipalities of Roseto Valfortore and Rocchetta Sant’Antonio; a few certification bodies; companies and hotel consortia. Club Emas is also evaluating the feasibility of QU.A.I.T., the first national exhibition on land and business environmental quality, that will provide the opportunity to show their production processes, as long as they have the same best practices and sustainability. Fausto Pizzolante, member of the Councillorship for the Environment, will review the initiatives of the Municipal Executive Committee concerning environment: from the funds allocated to companies investing in green economy to the actions towards “green” purchases planned by public administration.
Arpa Puglia (the Regional Agency for the Protection of Environment) has also guaranteed its support. General Manager Giorgio Assennato stressed the need of a macro-regional structure, based in Naples, able to centralise the activity of regional agencies, “Only in this way, we will have high-level environmental performance in Southern Italy.” During the press conference, the organization chart of the Club has been introduced, in particular the Direction Committee, the Consultation Committee and its Secretary – Treasurer.
